Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, expressed on Wednesday that the deployment of a German brigade to Lithuania could lead to an escalation of military tensions between Russia and NATO.
The agreement, signed by Germany and Lithuania, involves a German brigade consisting of approximately 4,800 soldiers.
Germany's Announcement
The German government announced on Monday that a brigade-sized unit would be stationed in Lithuania by 2027. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, during a visit to the Baltic republic, stated that the brigade would reach full operational capability by the end of 2027.
This move by Germany, in collaboration with Lithuania, marks a significant step in NATO's military presence in the region.
