China Stops Boeing Aircraft Imports

As the U.S.–China trade war escalates, Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered an immediate halt to the import of American aircraft, including Boeing planes, Bloomberg reports.

Boeing Deliveries to China Blocked

China’s aviation authorities have directed Chinese airlines to stop accepting new Boeing jets, a major blow to one of the U.S.’s largest exporters.

Part of a Broader Trade Retaliation

The move comes in response to President Trump’s steep tariffs, which now reach up to 145% on Chinese goods. China has responded with a 125% retaliatory tariff.

U.S. Parts and Equipment Also Targeted

Bloomberg sources say the Xi administration also ordered Chinese companies to halt purchases of U.S. parts and aviation equipment.

A Dozen Jets in Limbo

Around 10 Boeing aircraft are caught in limbo — some parked at the company’s Seattle factory, others being completed in eastern China.

Some Planes May Still Be Approved

If the purchase contracts were finalized before the new tariffs took effect, some jets may still be allowed into China after case-by-case reviews.

U.S. Exemptions — But Not for China

Trump gave most countries exemptions from his highest tariffs on “Liberation Day” — the date his trade measures took effect.
But China was not among them.

Partial Rollback on U.S. Tariffs

Under pressure, the U.S. recently scaled back some tariffs:
Smartphones, laptops, hard drives, and memory chips now face a 20% duty — not 145%.

China Matches Every U.S. Move

Unlike many countries that have held back, China has responded to every U.S. tariff with a countermeasure, creating a tit-for-tat trade spiral.

Will Trump’s Tariffs Come Back to Bite the U.S.?

Much has been said about the potential benefits of the tariffs — but could they ultimately prove costly for American businesses and, by extension, American citizens?
At this point, it certainly looks like already struggling Boeing could end up paying a heavy price.
