former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are set to join Kamala Harris on the campaign trail for the first time.

Michelle Obama Makes First Campaign Appearance

The Democrats are hoping that the Obamas' involvement will add political momentum to Harris' campaign as the presidential race between her and Republican rival Donald Trump remains extremely close, according to Digi24.

Michelle Obama will make her first campaign appearance this election cycle alongside Harris on Saturday, October 26, in Michigan.

This follows her speech earlier this year at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where she sharply criticized Donald Trump, accusing him of gaining political power through fear.

Her presence is expected to energize Democratic voters, especially women and younger voters who have long admired her advocacy and political influence.

Not Fully Embracing Female President

Barack Obama will join Harris on Thursday, October 31, in Georgia, a critical battleground state.

The former president has already been active in key swing states, recently holding events in Pittsburgh and scheduling others in Tucson, Las Vegas, Detroit, and Madison in the days to come.

His ability to connect with voters, particularly in African-American and younger communities, has made him a vital asset for the Democratic Party during this election cycle.

However, Obama has not been without controversy. After his first campaign appearance, he faced criticism for remarks in which he reprimanded some Black men for not fully embracing the idea of having a female president.

Despite this, he remains a strong supporter of Harris, who was one of the earliest backers of Obama during his 2008 presidential run. Harris has continued to work closely with him, particularly behind the scenes, as she leads the party’s 2024 campaign.

There is also speculation that Barack Obama played a pivotal role in helping President Joe Biden exit the race. Concerns about Biden’s age and ability to serve, especially following a debate with Trump in June, led many Democrats to rally behind Harris as the best option moving forward.

With the Obamas’ star power now fully behind her, Kamala Harris is hoping to capitalize on their support as the election nears.
