Yesterday, a top candidate in German election party BSW Sahra Wagenknecht was attacked with red liquid during a campaign event in Erfurt, writes The Guardian.
Security forces quickly subdued and removed the assailant, according to the Associated Press.
Wagenknecht, who recently left the far-left party Die Linke to establish her own political group, Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance), shared on social media that she was shaken but unharmed.
The BSW party pledges to end the war in Ukraine by stopping Germany's weapons deliveries to Kyiv.
Wagenknecht’s new party, founded eight months ago, combines skepticism about migration, opposition to NATO, support for high taxes on the wealthy, and resistance to military aid for Ukraine. Polls suggest that the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht could play a significant role in the upcoming state elections in Germany.
During the incident, bodyguards swiftly detained the attacker, who allegedly used red paint, at the election event held in Erfurt’s Cathedral Square on August 29, 2024.
The attacker has been identified as a 50-year-old man, shouting "Ukraini" or "Ukrania".
