Pope Francis has made pointed criticisms of former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, urging American voters to select the “lesser evil” in the upcoming presidential election.

Condemned Trumps Plan

During his return flight from Singapore to Rome, the Pope condemned Trump's plans to deport millions of immigrants and Harris's support for abortion rights, according to reports from Ziare.

In a press conference aboard the plane, Pope Francis characterized the refusal to accept immigrants as a “grave sin” and likened abortion to “murder.”

While he did not mention Trump or Harris by name, his references to their controversial policies were clear. He emphasized to the 52 million American Catholics the importance of voting, even when faced with challenging choices.

“Not voting is ugly. It is not good. You must vote,” he stated, urging voters to follow their conscience.

Trump is Not a Christian

This is not the first time Pope Francis has criticized Trump. During the 2016 election, he labeled Trump as “not Christian” due to his anti-immigrant stance.

On Friday, Pope Francis reiterated his position, declaring that the policies of both candidates are “against life.” He argued that both Trump’s proposed deportations and Harris’s support for abortion are incompatible with the sanctity of life.

Trump has promised tough measures against illegal immigration, including the deportation of millions and the potential construction of detention camps. In contrast, Harris has pledged to sign any national legislation protecting abortion rights, following the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to revoke abortion protections.

Pope Francis emphasized that immigration is a “right” and cited biblical passages advocating for the care of orphans, widows, and strangers. He condemned the refusal to welcome migrants as a serious moral failing and rejected any justification for abortion, calling it an “assassination.”
