High-stakes diplomacy is taking shape as Moscow and Washington prepare for a potential summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.

The talks, expected to focus on global security, nuclear arms control, and the ongoing war in Ukraine, could significantly impact the geopolitical landscape.

Leonid Sluțki, head of the State Duma’s International Affairs Committee, confirmed that preparations are already in an "advanced stage," as reported by HotNews.

"Let’s not speculate on the exact date, but February or March seems likely," Sluțki stated.

Gulf States Considered for Summit Location

According to Reuters, Russia is exploring Gulf countries—such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates—as potential hosts for the summit.

Senior Russian officials have recently visited both nations to discuss arrangements. However, internal opposition within Russia remains.

Some officials, particularly in the intelligence community, reportedly express concerns about holding the talks in countries allied with the U.S., fearing undue influence from their security ties with Washington.

Neither Saudi Arabia nor the UAE has issued comments, and the Kremlin has refrained from confirming details.

Nonetheless, both Putin and Trump have established strong diplomatic relations with Gulf leaders, making these locations viable options.

Strategic Significance

Trump has pledged to end the war in Ukraine "as soon as possible" and expressed readiness to meet with Putin shortly after assuming office.

In response, Putin congratulated Trump on his return to the White House and indicated his willingness to negotiate on Ukraine and energy policy.

If realized, this summit would mark a pivotal moment for international diplomacy, potentially shaping future agreements on nuclear arms reduction and the resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
