American rock icon Bruce Springsteen took the stage Thursday night, October 24, at a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris in Clarkston, Georgia, where he didn’t shy away from sharing his political views.
An American Tyrant
Between songs, Springsteen directed sharp criticism at former President Donald Trump, accusing him of campaigning to become an “American tyrant,” according to Ziare.
Known for his voice that champions America’s working class, Springsteen is among several celebrities joining Democrats in an effort to energize voters just under two weeks before a close presidential election.
“She’s running to be the 47th president of the United States. Donald Trump is campaigning to become an American tyrant,” Springsteen remarked before Harris and former President Barack Obama addressed the crowd.
Trump Doesn't Understand the Country
Springsteen, whose lyrics often explore the American Dream and its complexities, emphasized his discontent with Trump’s approach.
“He doesn’t understand this country, its history, or what it really means to be American,” he said, alluding to themes in his hits like “Born in the USA.”
The rock legend continued, listing qualities he desires in a leader:
“I want a president who respects the Constitution, who doesn’t threaten our great democracy but protects it, who believes in the rule of law and the peaceful transition of power, who fights for women’s right to choose, and who works to create a middle-class economy that benefits everyone.”
In his view, Harris is “the only candidate” who embodies these principles.
Springsteen, a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party, performed several of his classics, including “The Promised Land,” “Land of Hope and Dreams,” and “Dancing in the Dark.”
