Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has announced on X that he will travel to Ukraine on February 24 to express support for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reaffirm Spain’s commitment to Ukrainian democracy.
The announcement follows controversial comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently referred to Zelenskyy as a "dictator" and cast doubt on his democratic legitimacy.
On February 19, several European leaders voiced their disagreement with Trump’s remarks, defending Zelenskyy’s leadership and Ukraine’s democratic institutions.
In addition to Sánchez’s visit, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda is also expected to travel to Kyiv ahead of the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
