Donald Trump, speaking at a campaign rally on Wednesday, stated that the U.S. should threaten Iran with destruction if it attacks a presidential candidate.
Destroy Largest Cities
This statement follows recent reports that Iran has allegedly targeted the former president for assassination.
“If I were president, I would inform the country making the threat, in this case, Iran, that if you harm this person, we will destroy your largest cities and the country itself,” Trump said, referring to the reported threats against him, according to Ziare.
According to Trump's campaign team, U.S. intelligence services have warned of concrete assassination threats coming from Iran. Trump’s remarks come amid rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group supported by Tehran.
Directly Threatened by Iran
In recent months, Trump has been the target of two assassination attempts, further increasing concerns about his safety. On Tuesday, Trump asserted that his life has been directly threatened by Iran. These allegations have been denied by Iranian officials, who called the accusations malicious.
In August, U.S. authorities blamed Iran for several cyberattacks aimed at the presidential campaigns of both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
One hacking attempt on Trump’s campaign, reported on August 10, allegedly involved Iranian operatives stealing campaign documents. These stolen documents were later sent to Joe Biden’s campaign.
Trump’s campaign spokesperson stated that the assassination threats underscore the Iranian regime's preference for Kamala Harris’s “weakness” while fearing Trump’s strength and resolve.
