In a heated moment at a Wednesday press conference, Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene berated a British journalist, telling her to “go back to your country” after being pressed on the ongoing “Signalgate” controversy. The outburst adds to Greene’s growing record of hostility toward members of the press—particularly from abroad—and underlines the escalating tensions surrounding recent revelations from the Trump administration’s inner circle.

“We don’t care about your opinions”

The confrontation unfolded when Martha Kelner of Sky News attempted to question Greene about the scandal involving senior U.S. officials discussing a planned military strike in Yemen via the Signal messaging app.

A journalist from The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, had been added to the group chat by mistake and later published portions of the conversation, exposing potentially classified information.

Before Kelner could finish her question, Greene interjected: “Wait, what country are you from?” Upon hearing that Kelner was from the United Kingdom, the congresswoman snapped, “We don’t care about your opinions and your reporting. Why don’t you go back to your country, where you’ve got a real problem with migrants?”

Kelner pressed on, asking whether Greene was concerned that “American lives were put at risk” due to the unsecured chat. Greene doubled down: “Do you care about the people in your country? What about all the women being raped by migrants?”

Prior clashes with British media

The Georgia lawmaker, an outspoken Trump ally and high-profile figure in the MAGA movement, refused to take further questions from Kelner. When another reporter—an American—urged her to address Kelner’s query, Greene instead deflected by attacking the Biden administration.

This isn’t Greene’s first time sparring with the British press. In 2024, she told former BBC journalist Emily Maitlis to “go to hell” after being asked about her promotion of a conspiracy theory involving space lasers starting California wildfires.

The latest incident has added fuel to the fire around the Signalgate scandal, which has seen Democrats demand accountability from Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz for their participation in the chat. The controversy, as reported by HotNews.ro, has led to calls for resignations over what critics describe as a “stunning breach” of national security protocols.

For Greene, however, the takeaway was something else entirely—another opportunity to stoke nationalist rhetoric and dismiss the legitimacy of foreign media scrutiny.
