Trending Now

Amid growing speculation about President Joe Biden's health, the White House has released a statement addressing rumors concerning his medical condition.

The discussion intensified after reports from 'The New York Times' and 'The New York Post' revealed multiple visits by Kevin Cannard, a Parkinson’s disease specialist, to the White House.

No Parkinson's Treatment

According to El economista White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre firmly stated in a press conference that President Biden is not being treated for Parkinson's disease.

"Is the president being treated for Parkinson's? No. Is he taking medication for Parkinson's? No," she reiterated.

Despite repeated queries from journalists, Jean-Pierre declined to confirm the specifics of Dr. Cannard's visits, citing security reasons.

Jean-Pierre emphasized that Biden routinely sees a neurologist during his annual medical examinations. "Every time he has medical tests, he needs to see a neurologist. That answers the question," she explained, underscoring the importance of confidentiality regarding the medical professionals who visit the White House.

Medical Examination Details Released

Following the press briefing, the White House released a letter from Biden’s personal physician, Dr. Kevin O'Connor.

In the letter, Dr. O'Connor clarified that with President Biden's consent, Dr. Cannard's involvement in the president's annual check-ups was specified to ensure transparency. Dr. Cannard has been a neurology consultant to the White House medical unit since 2012, and his findings are included in the annual physical reports.

Dr. O'Connor reiterated that President Biden has not seen a neurologist outside of his regular annual exams. He highlighted the results of the president’s most recent neurological examination, which found no signs of brain or neurological disorders.

Political Implications

The health of the 81-year-old president has been a significant point of contention, especially following a televised debate with former President Donald Trump.

Biden’s performance was widely criticized, leading to calls from some within his party to step aside for another candidate. However, Biden dismissed these concerns, attributing his debate performance to campaign fatigue and reaffirming his intention to run for re-election in 2024.

"I wouldn’t be running if I didn’t believe I’m the best candidate to defeat Trump in 2024," he stated.
