Since ascending to the throne in 2022, King Charles III has sought to distance his brother, Prince Andrew, from public duties and the royal family’s image.

Halting Annual Allowance

Now, the British monarch has taken a decisive step by halting Andrew’s annual financial allowance, which reportedly approached £1 million, according to El Economista.

Charles has also stopped covering Andrew’s private security costs, signaling a clear move to curtail his younger brother’s royal privileges.

“The Duke of York is no longer a financial burden on the King,” a source close to the monarchy shared.

Embroiled in Controversy

For over a year, King Charles has encouraged Prince Andrew to vacate Royal Lodge, his longtime residence on the Windsor Castle estate.

However, the Duke of York has resisted, reportedly unwilling to leave his home despite his estrangement from the royal family.

The property, nestled just outside London, has served as Andrew’s residence for years, though Charles’s recent actions may pressure him to reconsider.

Prince Andrew, long removed from official duties, has been embroiled in controversy due to his connection with Jeffrey Epstein, the American financier convicted of abuse and trafficking of minors.

This scandal cast a long shadow over Andrew’s reputation and the monarchy’s image. In 2019, amid mounting public backlash, Queen Elizabeth II relieved him of his official duties to protect the Crown.

In 2022, shortly before her death, she also stripped Andrew of his honorary titles and royal patronages, solidifying his step back from public life.
