During the 2024 Paris Olympics, Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn, known as Raygun, faced harsh criticism after finishing nearly last in her event, just ahead of a disqualified competitor.
Climb To The Top
However, her fortunes have dramatically changed since then. The 37-year-old athlete, who failed to score any points during her Olympic performance, has now climbed to the top of the breakdancing world rankings, as reported by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF), according to 20minutes.
Despite her disappointing results in Paris, Raygun secured her position by earning 1,000 points at the WDSF Oceania Championship, which ultimately qualified her for the Olympic Games.
The current rankings showcase four other Australians among the top eight competitors, including Holy Molly at fourth place, Hannah in fifth, and G-Clef at eighth. Notably absent from the top spots are the three medalists from Paris.
Glad She Can Bring Joy
Recently, Raygun took a break from her vacation to reflect on her Olympic experience.
"I just want to start by thanking everyone who supported me. I truly appreciate the positivity, and I’m glad I could bring a bit of joy to their lives. That’s what I hoped for. I didn’t realize it would also open the door to so much hate, which has been quite devastating," she shared.
She emphasized her dedication, saying, "I went out there to have fun. I took it very seriously. I poured my heart into preparing for the Olympics and gave it my all. It’s an honor to be part of the Australian Olympic team and the Olympic debut of breaking."
