French soccer superstar Kylian Mbappe has found himself at the center of a controversy after Swedish media reported an allegation of sexual assault during his recent visit to Stockholm.
Investigating Assault
The claim, first reported by Swedish outlet Aftonbladet, involves an incident that allegedly took place on Thursday night at a hotel in central Stockholm.
According to the report, Mbappe was in Stockholm dining at Chez Jolie before heading to club V later that evening. The assault allegedly occurred that same night, as per the complaint Aftonbladet says it reviewed.
Swedish authorities, contacted by AFP, confirmed they were investigating a sexual assault case reported on October 10 but did not confirm any details or name the suspect.
The Swedish report states that a woman received medical care following the incident, leading her to file a complaint. Investigators reportedly visited the hotel where Mbappe and his entourage stayed, but they left Sweden by Friday afternoon.
"It is Fake News"
When asked for comment, Mbappe's representatives stated they had no knowledge of any complaints being made against the player. Mbappe himself has since labeled the accusations as "fake news," firmly denying the claims.
The soccer star, who currently plays for Real Madrid, returned to training shortly after the Stockholm trip, engaging in solo practice sessions at Real Madrid's training grounds.
His return to the club comes during a busy stretch of the season, with the team scheduled to play six matches over the next three weeks, beginning with a game against Celta Vigo in La Liga.
Mbappe, who also captains the French national team, has drawn criticism recently for missing international matches against Israel and Belgium in the UEFA Nations League. French coach Didier Deschamps did not include him in the lineup, citing a lack of match fitness.
