In an unexpected twist at a Major League Soccer match, a raccoon became the star of the show during New York City FC's away game against the Philadelphia Union.

Despite Austrian player Hannes Wolf scoring his debut goal for NYCFC, it was the furry intruder that captured the audience's attention and the spotlight on social media.

The incident occurred in the first half when the raccoon darted onto the field, prompting cheers from the spectators and a comical chase involving stewards armed with a garbage can.

The game was briefly paused as efforts to catch the elusive animal unfolded.

Once the raccoon was successfully managed, the game resumed, and Wolf took center stage. Wolf scored a remarkable 2-0 goal in stoppage time in the first half. The 25-year-old curled a free kick into the far corner from far right.

Wolf, a 25-year-old Styrian, joined NYCFC in January after his contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the German Bundesliga was terminated early.
