The global research and consulting firm Omdia recently released a report analyzing the phone sales for the first half of 2024.
Still in the Lead
According to Ziare they revealed a significant rise in the popularity of Android smartphones globally, signaling a shift in the dynamics of the smartphone market. While Apple continues to dominate, with its iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 securing the top two positions, Android devices are gaining substantial traction.
Leading the charge for Android is the Samsung Galaxy A15 4G, which clinched the third spot, just behind the iPhone 15.
This is a notable achievement for Samsung, marking the resurgence of Android phones in global rankings. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra secured fifth place, making it the first time since 2020 that Android devices have held two spots in the global top five.
15 Plus Fell Short of Expectations
Other Android models making their mark include the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G in seventh place, the Xiaomi Redmi 13C in eighth, and the Samsung Galaxy A05 in tenth. This diversity across different price points highlights the growing appeal of Android devices, especially in the affordable smartphone segment.
Despite Android's rising popularity, Apple remains the market leader, with five out of the top ten smartphones being iPhones. However, not all Apple models performed as expected; the iPhone 15 Plus fell short of expectations, ranking only 28th, with 3.7 million units sold.
As the competition between Android and Apple intensifies, it will be interesting to see how the market evolves, especially with the upcoming release of the iPhone 16 Plus, expected in the fall of 2024, following Apple's typical annual product launch schedule.
