If you're planning to upgrade to the iPhone 17, you might want to reconsider.
According to new leaks, Apple seems to be giving the standard model the cold shoulder, reserving major upgrades for the iPhone 17 Pro and the all-new iPhone 17 Air.
New Camera Design — But Not for Everyone
Apple insider Jon Prosser reports to Giga, that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Air will feature a new rectangular camera module, a major departure from previous designs.
But while the Pro models will keep their triangular triple-lens setup, the iPhone 17 Air will only have a single camera lens.
Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 17 is expected to keep the old iPhone 16 design, meaning no visual upgrades—a decision that may frustrate those hoping for a fresh look.
Prosser confirms that Apple is deliberately leaving the standard model unchanged.
The vertical camera layout, introduced with the iPhone 16, will remain untouched. While this might appeal to fans who prefer familiarity over change, it raises the question: is Apple intentionally holding back improvements to push users toward pricier models?
A Smart Move or a Letdown?
For some, keeping the old design could be a plus, as it avoids potential design missteps or unnecessary gimmicks.
But for those expecting a modern refresh without going Pro, this might feel like a downgrade disguised as a new model.
Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025, where all design changes will be officially revealed.
Prices are expected to stay in line with previous models, with Pro versions costing significantly more.
