If you haven’t used your Gmail account in a while, you might be at risk of losing access forever.
Starting March 10, 2025, Google will begin deleting inactive accounts that haven’t been used for over two years as part of a broader cleanup and security policy.
Google has updated its inactivity policy to enhance security and reduce risks of hacking. this was reported by the Magazine HD.
According to the company:
Inactive accounts are more vulnerable because they often have weak or outdated passwords.
Removing unused accounts helps free up storage space and reduce ghost data on Google’s servers.
If you want to prevent your account from being deleted, follow these simple steps:
Log in to your Google account at least once every two years
Check your recovery information (phone number & backup email)
Send or receive an email using Gmail
Watch YouTube videos while signed in
Save files to Google Drive or use Google Photos
While Google requires activity only every two years, the company strongly advises logging in more frequently to reduce hacking risks and unauthorized access.
If you have an old Gmail account you want to keep, log in today—before Google permanently deletes it.
