Flappy Bird, the mobile gaming sensation that took the world by storm in 2013-2014, is set to make a comeback in 2024, according to an announcement by The Flappy Bird Foundation, the new official license holder.
Re-Release with Updated Features
After a decade-long absence, the addictive game will be re-released with updated features, including new game environments, characters, and multiplayer modes.
Originally created by Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen, Flappy Bird quickly became one of the most downloaded mobile games due to its challenging gameplay and simple mechanics.
However, just a few months after its release, Nguyen removed the game from digital stores, citing the overwhelming success as detrimental to his personal life. Since then, the game’s rights have been transferred to Gametech Holdings LLC, with The Flappy Bird Foundation now handling the game's revival, according to Ziare.
Play Online Against Others
The new version will retain the core gameplay that fans loved but will introduce exciting additions like new characters and environments.
An online multiplayer mode and progression system will keep players engaged in a fresh way. A browser version of Flappy Bird will be released by the end of 2024, followed by its return to the App Store and Google Play in 2025.
Michael Roberts, head of The Flappy Bird Foundation, shared his excitement, stating, "We’re thrilled to bring Flappy Bird back and offer an experience that will keep players hooked for years to come."
Although original creator Dong Nguyen is not involved, the game's legacy lives on. The development team includes Kek, the creator of Piou Piou, a game that inspired Flappy Bird, ensuring the new version stays true to its roots while offering a modern twist for both old and new fans.
