iPhone and iPad owners are advised to update their devices to iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 as soon as possible, as these updates address two security vulnerabilities that could potentially have been exploited to compromise the devices.
In Apple's official security update document, it is mentioned that there is a report indicating that vulnerabilities in RTKit and the kernel may have been exploited by malicious actors.
"Consequence: An attacker with arbitrary read and write capabilities in the kernel could bypass kernel memory protection. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited."
Apple has addressed this memory corruption issue by implementing improved validation to close the security gap.
Additionally, iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 resolve a vulnerability in the accessibility features and an issue in Safari's Private Browsing function that allowed locked tabs to become briefly visible when switching between tabs.
