Apple has announced significant improvements in the repairability of its latest iPhone 16, addressing criticisms faced by earlier models.

New Method to Replace Battery

Alongside a more straightforward battery replacement process, Apple aims to reduce electronic waste and repair costs, signaling a shift toward more consumer-friendly practices.

One of the most notable changes is the revamped method for replacing the iPhone 16’s battery, according to Ziare.

Previously, replacing the battery was a complex process due to strong adhesive, but Apple has introduced a new system that makes the task easier. By using a 9V battery connection to heat the adhesive, the battery can be removed without damaging other components.

This innovation not only simplifies repairs but could also lower the overall costs for consumers.

A Repair Assistant

Additionally, Apple has made improvements to Face ID repairs. For the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, the TrueDepth camera, which powers Face ID, can now be swapped between phones without requiring a visit to an authorized repair center. This change offers users more flexibility and convenience when dealing with issues related to Face ID.

The tech giant is also launching the Apple Repair Assistant, a tool designed to make repairs easier for both users and professional repair technicians.

This system allows for a mix of new and second-hand parts, helping reduce electronic waste. However, Apple continues to block components tied to stolen devices, maintaining security for users.

Further enhancing the repair experience, Apple will support third-party parts in future updates, enabling key features like True Tone, LiDAR, and Face ID to work with non-Apple components.
