Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Buds won’t rely on Bluetooth. Instead, they will use a completely different technology.

The South Korean tech giant is reportedly preparing to make a major shift in its next generation of wireless earbuds. According to new information, Samsung is working on replacing Bluetooth with Ultra Wideband (UWB) for audio transmission in its upcoming Galaxy Buds.

This new technology promises lower latency, fewer interruptions, and potentially higher sound quality.

Less Interference and Faster Connection

Bluetooth has long been the standard for wireless headphones, but with UWB, Samsung is set to take a big leap forward.

A recently filed patent suggests that the new Galaxy Buds will still use Bluetooth to establish an initial connection with a smartphone or other device. But once connected, UWB will take over to transmit audio directly to both earbuds simultaneously.

This shift could improve the audio experience, as UWB supports data rates of up to 20 Mbps, making it possible to deliver lossless audio without delays, according to M3.

One of Bluetooth’s biggest drawbacks is the risk of interference, especially in areas with many wireless devices.

UWB addresses this issue by operating on a different frequency, ensuring a more stable connection.

Additionally, the lower latency could improve the synchronization of sound and video, benefiting both music playback and video calls.
