A new phishing scam is targeting Amazon customers.

The consumer advice center has issued a warning about a new phishing email scam specifically targeting Amazon customers.

The fraudulent email claims that an update to account information is required, supposedly due to a recent update at Amazon.

The email bears the subject line “Update your account information” and includes a salutation that displays only the recipient’s email address rather than their name.

This is the first red flag.

The perpetrators attempt to persuade recipients to update their data by providing a link. However, this link does not direct to Amazon but instead leads to a fake website designed to steal personal data and banking information.

According to a report by Watson, another indication of the scam is the poor spelling and grammar in the email.

The consumer advice center strongly recommends moving such emails to your spam folder without responding and advises against clicking on any links within them.

If you accidentally fall victim to such a phishing email, it is crucial to immediately check your computer or cell phone for malicious software and change all passwords.

It is also advisable to report any damages to your bank and the police.
