Drones are becoming more common, but if you spot one hovering over your home or near sensitive infrastructure, the only right thing to do is call the police.

While it may feel intrusive, it is illegal for private individuals to shoot down or destroy a drone, no matter how frustrating its presence may be.

Spike in Suspicious Drone Activity Worries Authorities

Reports of unknown drones flying over private properties, ports, airports, and energy facilities have sharply increased, raising concerns among authorities.

Some of these drones could be used for illegal surveillance or potential security threats, according to TV2 Kosmopol.

Authorities are therefore urging the public to report suspicious drones immediately to help prevent disruptions and protect public safety.

What to Do If You Spot an Unknown Drone

If a drone appears near your home or a sensitive location, take these steps:

  • Note the time and possible location of the drone operator if visible.

  • Take photos or video of the drone if possible.

  • Report it to the police if you believe the drone poses a threat.

Only law enforcement and military personnel are authorized to remove or shoot down a drone.

Airports and military areas have special rules that allow security forces to take action against drones posing a safety risk.

For now, the message is clear: Observe, document, and report suspicious drone activity — but do not take matters into your own hands.
