Thanks to a groundbreaking development called Project Renegade, it is now possible to install Windows 11 on certain smartphones.
This innovative project uses UEFI firmware based on EDK2, enabling Windows 11 to run on devices powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors.
Compatible Devices
Project Renegade initially supports older models like the Nokia Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, which were originally part of Microsoft’s now-defunct Windows Phone series.
Enthusiasts have also successfully installed Windows 11 on modern devices, including the Xiaomi POCO X3 Pro. However, the process isn’t without its challenges.
For instance, one user spent eight hours configuring the system on their POCO X3 Pro. While functional, issues like an inverted screen and short battery life (about 2.5 hours) were reported, according to Sweclockers.
The project remains experimental, and installation requires technical expertise.
Some phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy A52, are labeled as “experimental” by the developers, who caution against installation unless users are familiar with technical risks.
Despite its limitations, the initiative showcases how mobile and PC technologies can converge. Running Windows 11 on a smartphone could pave the way for hybrid devices that blur the line between traditional computers and phones.
For those willing to experiment, Project Renegade offers detailed instructions on its official website, making this a fascinating option for tech-savvy users.
