Facebook continues to evolve its platform in an effort to keep users engaged for longer periods.
Based on User's Locations
The company, led by Mark Zuckerberg, is testing several new features across select U.S. cities aimed at introducing more localized and diverse content to users' feeds.
One of the primary updates under test involves attracting localized content based on the user’s location. This content includes events, group posts, and listings from Facebook Marketplace — its online shopping platform.
These changes are designed to offer users more relevant, local information, creating a personalized experience that encourages them to engage more frequently with their surroundings.
Travel Recommendations
Another new feature being tested is the "Explore" section. This area will showcase content from outside a user’s typical social bubble.
According to Facebook, the section will highlight travel recommendations, practical tips, and expert advice from real people and specialized communities, broadening users’ perspectives beyond their usual network.
In a move that mirrors TikTok’s successful format, Facebook is also planning to introduce vertical, full-screen videos. These videos will include content from outside the user’s immediate network, drawing inspiration from TikTok's focus on short, immersive videos.
Additionally, Facebook is borrowing from its sister platform, WhatsApp, by introducing "Communities." This section will allow users to create topic-specific communication channels, fostering focused conversations around various subjects.
These updates will be rolled out gradually in the coming months.
