In a heroic act, 72-year-old pensioner Mikhail Makarov from Shchelkovo, Russia, stepped in to prevent a robber from stealing a schoolboy's smartphone.
Makarov was fixing his car outside his home on the afternoon of October 23 when he saw a 35-year-old man grab a student's phone and try to flee.
Without hesitation, Makarov tackled the thief, tripping him and holding him down.
A woman then arrived on the scene and was able to take the phone back from the mugger.
Although the thief eventually got away, the police caught up with him later.
The Moscow Region Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has since opened a criminal case against him for attempted robbery using non-life-threatening violence.
