A young boy named Malachi was left disappointed when none of his classmates RSVP'd to his upcoming birthday party.
The reason?
His cake would be vegan.
Malachi's mother, Angel Craine, shared the disheartening news, revealing that her son has been following a vegan diet since January and has faced ridicule from his peers for it.
Angel Craine, a 27-year-old from Scarborough, Australia, spoke to the Daily Mail about the ordeal.
She said,
"I've been told every day after school about kids making rude remarks about him being vegan, but it was only a week ago he told me that everyone said they weren't coming to his party if he has a vegan cake. They want him to have 'animals' in it or they won't come."
Party plans in jeopardy
The family had been planning a Pokémon-themed birthday party for Malachi for over a month. Angel was hopeful that the children would eventually come around, but as the party date nears, not a single RSVP has been received.
In a last-ditch effort to save her son's special day, Angel turned to a vegan Facebook group to invite like-minded families.
"He's always keen to make friends, he's a little social butterfly so he's super excited about his birthday. He's also absolutely obsessed with Pokémon, I even bought him a Pikachu costume to wear," Angel added.
The story serves as a poignant reminder of how dietary choices can sometimes lead to unexpected social consequences, even for children.
