A Brazilian woman has finally brought her father’s killer to justice 25 years after his murder, fulfilling a lifelong mission, according to OddityCentral.
Givaldo José Vicente de Deus was shot dead on February 16, 1999, in Boa Vista, Brazil, following a dispute over a $29 debt. Raimundo Alves Gomes shot Givaldo in the head at point-blank range before fleeing the scene.
Despite an arrest warrant, Gomes evaded capture, leaving Givaldo's family devastated.
His eldest daughter, nine at the time of her father’s death, dedicated her life to finding Gomes.
Made it her life-long dedication to capture the killer
Gislayne Silva de Deus, now a licensed lawyer, decided to shift her career path after graduating law school.
In 2024, she became a State Police investigator and immediately requested a position in the Homicide Division, aiming to track down her father’s murderer.
Although Gomes was sentenced to 12 years in prison in absentia in 2013, he remained at large, with a recent arrest warrant issued in 2019.
Revealing her identity
On September 25, 2024, just two months into her police career, Gislayne and her team arrested him on a farm in Nova Cidade, near Boa Vista.
Upon his capture, Gislayne confronted Gomes at the police station, revealing her identity and her role in his arrest. “I cried with relief because, after so long, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders,” she said.
Her story has resonated deeply across Brazil and South America, highlighting her unwavering commitment to her family.
