Jordan McLachlan, a 26-year-old medic from Ardnamurchan, Scotland, was killed in action on January 5, 2025, while serving on the frontline in Ukraine.

His family confirmed the news to BBC.

They describe Jordan as someone deeply committed to helping others and dedicated to his mission in Ukraine.

McLachlan joined Ukraine’s Armed Forces as a volunteer medic in 2022, shortly after Russia launched its full-scale invasion. His role involved providing frontline medical assistance to soldiers and civilians affected by the conflict.

“Jordan believed in what he was doing. He wanted to make a difference and help those in need,” his family shared in a statement to the BBC.

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed it is working closely with McLachlan’s family and Ukrainian authorities to coordinate the return of his remains.

A spokesperson for the FCDO said, “We are supporting the family of a British national who has died in Ukraine and are in contact with local authorities.”

McLachlan’s death is a reminder of the many international volunteers who have joined Ukraine’s fight for freedom. Thousands from over 50 countries have enlisted since 2022, with many serving in the International Legion of Ukraine.

Among them are several Scots, including Adam Ennis, a former mechanic who left his garage business to join the International Legion, and Jonathan Shenkin, another Scottish volunteer killed in Ukraine in December 2022.
