The Ukrainian State Prosecutor's Office announced Sunday that it is investigating reports of possible civilian executions by Russian soldiers in Selidove, a town in eastern Ukraine.
Fired on Civilian Vehicle
The area has been the site of intense fighting in recent days and is now largely under Moscow’s control.
In a statement, the Prosecutor's Office cited reports from Ukrainian media, detailing the alleged execution of two women in the city and the discovery of civilian bodies in an area reportedly untouched by direct conflict.
“These killings occurred after the enemy had taken control of the territory,” the office stated, according to 20minutos.
The investigation also extends to an incident caught on video, showing Russian forces allegedly firing on a civilian vehicle with automatic weapons on February 24, injuring one of the two passengers.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, Ukrainian soldiers arrived on the scene shortly after, administering first aid to the injured passenger.
Nearly Fully Occupied
Ukrainian Telegram channels have shared similar accounts of civilian executions in Russian-occupied areas of Selidove.
Mariana Bezuhla, a member of the Ukrainian parliament from the governing Servant of the People party, stated on social media that “civilians are being shot at in Selidove,” and that the city is now nearly fully occupied by Russian forces. Bezuhla urged residents within 10 kilometers of the frontlines to evacuate immediately for their safety.
Russian troops are reportedly advancing slowly but steadily in Selidove and other areas of the Donetsk region. According to the Ukrainian monitoring platform DeepState, Russian forces control much of Selidove and are advancing southwest toward the town of Vishneve, attempting to encircle the area.
Selidove, a pre-war town of 21,000 people, has become a focal point for Russian advances as part of their broader offensive against Pokrovsk in recent months.
