Mikhail Rogachev, a former executive at the Russian oil giant Yukos, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Moscow, prompting speculation and raising questions about the nature of his death.
A Bad State of Mind
Rogachev, who once held the position of vice president at Yukos, reportedly fell from a window of his 10th-floor apartment, according to initial reports from Russian media, including antenna3.ro according to Ziare.
Preliminary findings suggest that Rogachev left a farewell note and sent a text message to his family before his death.
Russian media outlets, citing unnamed sources, have reported that the former oil executive had been battling advanced cancer. One prevailing theory is that Rogachev may have taken his own life due to the unbearable pain caused by the illness.
Prior to his death, he allegedly texted his sister, urging her to contact his wife, Yelena, because he was in a “bad state of mind."
He Was in a Good Mood
However, these claims have been met with skepticism from some of Rogachev’s relatives and close acquaintances.
According to the Telegram channel VCHK-OGPU, those close to Rogachev deny that he was suffering from any form of cancer, contradicting the initial reports about his illness. Furthermore, they insist that he did not show any signs of suicidal tendencies in the days leading up to his death.
His family members claim that he had been in good spirits, even noting that he seemed to be in a "good mood" on the morning of his death.
Rogachev’s body was discovered in the courtyard below his apartment by a worker from Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR). The man, who is reportedly the personal driver of Sergei Vinokurov, a former deputy director of the agency, found Rogachev’s lifeless body while walking his dog.
The discovery has added an additional layer of intrigue to the case, given the connection to Russia's intelligence services.
The details surrounding Rogachev’s final moments remain murky. Earlier in the day, he had eaten breakfast with his family and reportedly appeared to be in a normal, calm mood. Shortly afterward, his body was found beneath the windows of his home, sparking immediate speculation about the cause of his death.
The mysterious death of the former Yukos executive adds to a growing list of high-profile Russian businessmen and oligarchs who have died under unusual circumstances in recent years.
