Russian forces have drastically increased their shelling of Sudzha, a town in the Kursk region, and surrounding villages.
This development was reported by Oleksii Dmytrashkivskyi, a spokesperson for Ukraine's temporary military command in the Russian Federation.
“Civilians are mostly confined to their homes or shelters as the enemy has escalated its attacks. Many villages in the area have been wiped off the map,” Dmytrashkivskyi said during a national telethon on January 7, as cited by United24 Media.
Since August 6, air and artillery strikes on Sudzha have killed 36 civilians and left around 100 injured.
The attacks reportedly involve S-300 missiles, a system traditionally used for air defense but increasingly employed by Russian forces for ground strikes. Additionally, FPV drones, described as "swarms of bees," are being used extensively for surveillance and targeting any movements in the region.
Dmytrashkivskyi also stated that five months of combat in the Kursk region have resulted in over 38,000 casualties among Russian forces, according to reports from Ukraine’s General Staff.
