Donald Trump Jr. recently mocked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on social media, hinting that U.S. support for Ukraine may wane when his father returns to office.
A Distasteful Post
In a post shared on Instagram, Trump Jr. shared a video of a pensive-looking Zelensky standing beside Donald Trump.
As the video zooms in on Zelensky’s face, dollar bills start raining down with a caption reading:
"38 days until you lose your allowance"
This is a reference to the January 20, 2025, date when Trump is set to be sworn in, according to WP.
Political commentators and social media users reacted strongly to the post, with Brian Krassenstein, an American political analyst, calling it "distasteful" given the ongoing war in Ukraine and the loss of thousands of lives.
A Callous Attitude
Brian Krassenstein criticized Trump Jr. for what he described as a callous attitude, noting that Russia's invasion has resulted in the deaths of over 600 Ukrainian children and tens of thousands of civilians.
According to The Telegraph, the video was initially shared by Sarah Palin, former Governor of Alaska, before Trump Jr. re-posted it.
In recent statements, Trump campaign insiders have indicated that his administration would prioritize achieving peace in Ukraine rather than fully supporting its territorial recovery.
However, a spokesperson for Trump clarified that statements suggesting such priorities do not officially represent the president-elect's stance.
Trump, who has expressed skepticism over continued financial support for Ukraine, reportedly assured Zelensky last week that he does not intend to abandon Ukraine.
