Estonia is considering purchasing defense products from Ukraine, a move that could boost Ukrainian production, according to Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, as reported by Ukrinform.
Although Ukraine currently has a ban on the export of weapons and military equipment due to the ongoing war, Pevkur stated that this would not be an obstacle if both nations reach a mutual agreement.
Such cooperation could benefit both Estonia and Ukraine, as Estonia would acquire needed defense equipment while Ukraine would receive funds to further support its own military production.
“If we receive consent from the Ukrainian government, we can proceed. The goal is to ensure that Ukraine earns more money from these deals, allowing them to produce more for their own army,” Pevkur explained.
He added that Estonia would only purchase equipment that is necessary for its defense, with a particular interest in long-range missiles. Specific details of the potential purchases were not disclosed.
Next week, Pevkur is scheduled to meet with Ukraine’s Defense Minister in Brussels, and he plans to visit Ukraine in the coming weeks.
This comes as several European countries, including France, the UK, Italy, and Germany, have confirmed increased investments in Ukraine’s defense industry, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov.
