As the war in Ukraine continues, international support remains crucial for Kyiv’s resistance. Following the recent suspension of U.S. military aid, France has stepped in to provide intelligence and strategic assistance, reaffirming its commitment to Ukraine’s defense efforts.
Intelligence Support and Strategic Response
France's Minister of Defense, Sébastien Lecornu, confirmed that Paris will supply Ukraine with "intelligence resources" in light of the worsening security situation.
He acknowledged that the intensification of hostilities between Ukraine and Russia was "predictable" and stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue between Moscow and Washington, as reported by Digi24.
Lecornu pointed out that the U.S. has historically undergone phases of isolationism but emphasized that "it is essential for Russian-American discussions to truly begin."
Addressing Fears of a Larger Conflict
With growing concerns about the broader implications of the war, Lecornu sought to dispel fears of an imminent world war.
"We must not shift from indifference to panic and declare this the Third World War. We need to stay calm and have confidence," he stated.
However, he also acknowledged the persistent threat posed by Russia, noting that intelligence and military officials continue to view Moscow as a significant security challenge.
France’s Military Readiness and Call for European Action
To ensure its own defense capabilities, Lecornu highlighted the need for France to strengthen its military assets, including three additional naval frigates and 20 Rafale fighter jets.
Additionally, he called on Europe to bolster its space security initiatives, warning that the continent must "wake up" to the growing strategic challenges in the space domain.
