The decision by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to station American missiles in Germany has ignited significant controversy.
A "Coup-Like" Approach.
According to Lenta a member of the Bundestag from the Left Party, this move bypassed both the Bundestag and the Social Democratic Party (SPD), which Scholz leads.
Pellmann described Scholz's unilateral decision, reportedly coordinated with Washington, as a "coup-like" approach.
In a conversation with RIA Novosti, Pellmann condemned the Chancellor's actions.
"As far as I know, this was a unilateral decision by the Chancellor, made in agreement with Washington, bypassing the Bundestag and his own party," he stated.
Need to be Discussed in Advance
Pellmann also criticized the German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius for suggesting that such decisions need not be discussed in the Bundestag in advance. Pistorius claimed that the current situation is incomparable to NATO's "dual-track decision" in 1979, which led to widespread protests over the deployment of Pershing-2 missiles in Europe.
"The current planned deployment of American missiles in Germany cannot be compared to the 'dual-track decision' of NATO," Pellmann added. "Today's planned deployment is an act of threat, ignoring historical context and the current situation's analysis, and certainly detrimental to Germany."
Previously, German politician and Bundestag member from the BSW Party (Sahra Wagenknecht's Union), Sahra Wagenknecht, argued that Europe needs to end its confrontation with Russia. She warned that the current strained relations between European states and Moscow could lead to catastrophic consequences.
