Russian forces launched a massive wave of missile and drone strikes on Ukraine over the weekend, leaving at least 15 people dead, Ukrainian officials reported.
The assault, which included hundreds of guided bombs, drones, and missiles, marked one of the most intense attacks in recent weeks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the strikes caused significant damage across six regions, including Kyiv.
This is one of the largest Russian attacks in weeks.
Russian Strikes Hitting Civilians - Possibly Even Their Own
In Poltava, a city in central Ukraine, an apartment building was struck by a Russian missile, killing 11 people, including a child. Footage from the aftermath showed firefighters searching through smoldering rubble, with bodies being recovered in bags.
In Kharkiv, a key northeastern city, a downed Russian drone exploded in a residential area, killing one woman and injuring four others.
Meanwhile, in Sumy’s Yunakivska district, three police officers were killed in a Russian airstrike.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed its strikes targeted energy facilities supporting Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.
However, in the Russian border region of Kursk, an area controlled by Ukrainian forces, conflicting reports emerged about an attack on a local shelter.
Ukraine’s military accused Moscow of deliberately bombing an evacuation center in the town of Sudzha using a guided aerial bomb.
The Ukrainian military’s General Staff reported that four civilians were killed, four others were critically injured, and 84 people were rescued from the debris.
Ukrainian air force officials stated that there was “irrefutable evidence” the strike came from Russian tactical aircraft.
In contrast, Russia’s Defense Ministry accused Ukrainian forces of targeting the same shelter with a missile launched from Sumy, calling it a “new war crime.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a statement last month, claimed he was open to peace talks but ruled out negotiations with Zelensky, whom he dismissed as “illegitimate.”
With no immediate resolution in sight, the conflict continues to escalate, with devastating consequences for civilians on both sides of the border.
