A private military academy in Chechnya named after Russian President Vladimir Putin came under drone attack early Tuesday morning, as reported by Ziare.
Trains Russian Special Forces
The Russian University of Special Forces, located in Gudermes, was hit at around 6:30 a.m., with the strike sparking a fire on the roof of an empty building on the academy grounds.
Kadyrov shared the news on Telegram, confirming that there were no injuries and that fire crews quickly extinguished the flames.
Images of the blaze were circulated by the Russian Telegram channel Baza, showing the extent of the fire damage at the academy, which specializes in training Russian special forces and volunteers for deployment to Ukraine.
Named after Putin
According to Kadyrov, Chechen authorities are actively investigating to identify those behind what he described as a “crime.” Activities at the academy reportedly remain unaffected, with operations continuing as normal.
Ukrainian media highlighted that this marks the first drone strike on Chechen soil since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022.
Founded in 2013 at Kadyrov’s direction, the Russian University of Special Forces trains elite units and prepares volunteers for combat in Ukraine. In February, the academy was officially renamed after Putin, honoring the Russian president.
Putin himself visited the facility in August, his first visit to Chechnya in over a decade. During the trip, Kadyrov, known for his strong allegiance to Moscow, accompanied Putin, guiding him through the academy.
