A drone was discovered Tuesday near the town of Coșernița in the Republic of Moldova, roughly 23 kilometers from Chisinau, according to local authorities, reports Digi24.
Residents reported the incident, prompting a police response, NewsMaker reports. This follows the discovery of two additional drones on Sunday, one in northwestern Moldova and another in the southeast, amid a surge of drone strikes between Russia and Ukraine.
Ukraine had reported that ten Russian drones appeared to be headed toward Moldova, Belarus, and Russia.
On Sunday, Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement calling on Russia to respect Moldova’s neutrality and territorial integrity.
On Tuesday, the ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov to deliver a formal protest, partly related to a separate incident on November 10.
Following the drone discovery near Chisinau, the area was immediately cordoned off to ensure public safety, with restricted access to the site.
Specialized teams were mobilized to examine the drone, and comprehensive investigations are underway to determine the drone’s origin and any associated risks.
Authorities are continuing their inquiry and plan to provide further information as it becomes available.
