The war in Ukraine has seen the destruction of thousands of tanks on both sides.

Modern armored vehicles, once considered nearly invulnerable, are being targeted with increasingly sophisticated weapons.

Drone warfare, in particular, has changed the battlefield. Unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with explosives can bypass traditional defenses and strike from unexpected angles.

The introduction of fiber-optic-guided drones, resistant to electronic jamming, has proven especially devastating.

These weapons have contributed to the losses suffered by both Russian and Ukrainian forces.

Hit Despite Modifications

Recent reports indicate that Ukraine has lost 19 out of the 31 Abrams tanks supplied by the United States. Videos circulating on social media show some of these tanks being struck by Russian kamikaze drones.

The footage, shared by pro-Russian Telegram channels, captures a Ukrainian Abrams tank equipped with additional reactive armor and a protective metal cage over its turret.

Despite these modifications, the vehicle was still hit and disabled, according to Digi24.

Ukrainian troops operating the Abrams have pointed out weaknesses in the American-made tank. Soldiers have stated that the vehicles attract Russian fire and are often targeted first in battle.

The evolving nature of the war has made it difficult to use these tanks effectively.

Open-source intelligence group Oryx has been tracking military vehicle losses throughout the conflict.

According to their data, Ukraine has lost over 1,000 tanks, with more than 700 completely destroyed. Among these losses are 58 German-made Leopard 2 tanks, two British Challenger tanks, and 19 Abrams.

Russia has also suffered heavy losses. The same reports suggest that the Russian military has lost more than 3,700 tanks, with over 2,600 destroyed.

This includes over 120 T-90M tanks, considered one of Russia’s most advanced models.
