German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed optimism about achieving peace in Ukraine "sooner than currently perceived."

The Time Has Come

During an interview with ZDF, Scholz emphasized the need for a new peace conference similar to the one held earlier this year in Switzerland, but with Russia participating, contingent on Ukraine’s approval, according to SE.

The previous peace summit took place on June 16 in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, where leaders from nearly 100 countries convened.

Notably absent were representatives from China and Russia, as the latter was not invited to the talks. However, Scholz believes that it is crucial for Russia to be part of any future discussions to foster a pathway toward resolution.

"I believe the time has come to discuss how we can exit this war situation and achieve peace more quickly than currently thought," he stated.

Committed to Respect Territory

Scholz's comments came after a recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Frankfurt, where both leaders outlined preliminary agreements regarding the proposed peace summit. They acknowledged that achieving peace requires engagement and dialogue among all parties involved.

The outcome of the previous summit hinted at the possibility of Russia's involvement in future meetings. The final resolution underscored a commitment to respect territorial integrity and sovereignty for all nations, highlighting key issues such as nuclear arms, prisoners of war, and food security.

Scholz's call for a renewed diplomatic effort has sparked new hope amid ongoing military actions in Ukraine.
