Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitri Lubinets has reported disturbing allegations concerning the execution of nine Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) by Russian soldiers in the Kursk region.

Red Cross Allerted

This incident comes as tensions remain high in Eastern Ukraine, particularly within the Donbas area. Ukrainian troops reportedly entered Russian-held territory in early August in an effort to reduce pressure from the advancing Russian forces.

Lubinets has taken decisive action by alerting both the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations (UN) regarding these alleged executions, according to Digi24.

In a statement on his Telegram account, he asserted that such actions represent a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions, which outline the humanitarian treatment of POWs.

A Terrorist State

He emphasized that these violations cannot be overlooked and insisted that Russia must be held fully accountable for its conduct during this conflict. The ombudsman characterized Russia as a “terrorist state” that routinely disregards the rules of warfare.

The claims made by Lubinets have been corroborated by military analysis from DeepState, a platform associated with Ukraine's Ministry of Defense.

According to their reports, Russian forces executed Ukrainian soldiers on October 10 near the village of Zelionîi Şliah. Analysts noted that Ukrainian troops advanced into what they believed to be a relatively safe area, only to be met unexpectedly by Russian forces.

Lacking sufficient ammunition, the Ukrainian soldiers ultimately had no choice but to surrender.
