The Russian Federation recently commenced extensive naval exercises involving over 300 ships and 20,000 sailors. These maneuvers, part of a larger effort to test command capabilities in different operational zones, include Russia's Northern, Pacific, and Baltic Fleets, along with the Caspian Flotilla.

The United States Alone Boasts More Than 470 Ships

According to Tech the exercises aim to enhance the detection, identification, and targeting of simulated surface and airborne threats.

While the scale of these drills is notable, they highlight a significant disparity when compared to NATO's naval capabilities. Currently, Russia operates around 420 ships, a fraction of NATO's total naval strength, which includes over 2,850 vessels.

The United States alone boasts more than 470 ships, making it the largest naval power within NATO. Following the U.S., Sweden and Italy maintain formidable fleets with over 350 and 300 ships, respectively.

The World's Largest and Most Advanced Aircraft Carrier.

Among NATO's advanced naval assets is the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the world's largest and most advanced aircraft carrier. This American behemoth measures 333 meters in length and can accommodate 4,600 personnel, supporting a variety of aircraft including F-35 fighters. The carrier is equipped with electromagnetic catapults, allowing continuous aircraft launches—a significant upgrade from older steam catapults.

NATO's fleet also includes state-of-the-art destroyers like the British HMS Daring (D32), which specializes in air defense. It employs the Sea Viper system, which uses advanced radar technology to launch Aster missiles, providing protection for aircraft carriers and amphibious forces. France contributes to NATO's nuclear deterrence with the Le Triomphant-class submarines, capable of carrying ballistic missiles with thermonuclear warheads.
