Russian President Vladimir Putin made headlines during the Eastern Economic Forum 2024 with a joke about U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden.

Shoul He Be Insulted?

In a lighthearted remark, Putin referred to Biden as Russia's "favorite" and quipped that Russia would heed Biden's suggestion to support Harris in the upcoming U.S. presidential election.

The comments, while delivered in a joking tone, quickly drew responses from both the White House and former President Donald Trump.

Following Putin’s remarks, the White House urged Russia to refrain from interfering in U.S. elections. The sensitive nature of election security in the U.S. made Putin’s comments particularly noteworthy.

Former President Trump, meanwhile, seemed unsure how to interpret the Russian leader’s joke. In a public response, Trump remarked, "I don’t know if I should feel insulted or if he did me a favor."

During his forum speech, Putin also commented on Kamala Harris's laughter, calling it "expressive and contagious," which he took as a sign that "she’s doing well."

Dmitry Peskov, Putin's press secretary, humorously added that he had grown fond of Harris's laugh and suggested that others should appreciate it too.
