Reports have emerged about the possible execution of Ukrainian soldiers who were captured and surrounded in the Kursk region of Russia.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, shared the information via Telegram, citing social media sources.
Lubinets confirmed that he has already sent official requests to the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to investigate what he describes as a war crime.
The Ukrainian Ombudsman emphasized that Russia’s actions are a violation of the Geneva Conventions, particularly regarding the treatment of prisoners of war, and called for immediate international intervention.
According to reports, at least five Ukrainian defenders were allegedly shot by Russian forces in the Pokrovsky region.
An investigation into these incidents is currently underway.
Lubinets stressed that Russia’s actions must be condemned and stopped, underscoring the urgency of international action to hold those responsible accountable for these violations of international law.
This development follows other reports of Ukrainian prisoners of war being mistreated or executed, which continue to draw condemnation from global human rights organizations and governments worldwide.
