Modern conflicts are as much about intelligence as firepower. The ongoing war in Ukraine has proven that capturing and studying enemy equipment can offer a tactical edge.

This practice has been seen on both sides, with seized technology turned into a valuable source of information.

Recently, Russian forces got their hands on one of NATO’s most advanced infantry fighting vehicles: the M2A2 Bradley.

According to WP, a Ukrainian military publication, the vehicle is already in the hands of Russian engineers.

Instead of destroying it, they are analyzing its design and systems to gather as much data as possible.

The goal is not necessarily to replicate the Bradley, which experts say is unlikely. But even small insights could be used to exploit weaknesses or develop countermeasures.

Not the First Time

This isn’t the first time NATO equipment has been captured. Russia has previously transported valuable vehicles, like the German Leopard 2A6 tank, to its defense facilities for study.

Other notable captures include the Swedish CV90, another modern infantry fighting vehicle.

The M2A2 Bradley, however, is a significant prize. Known for its durability and versatility, it has saved countless Ukrainian lives.

The vehicle is equipped with multi-layered armor made from steel, aluminum, and composites. It also features spall liners to reduce fragmentation inside and an advanced fire suppression system.

Soldiers can further enhance its protection with Bradley Reactive Armor Tiles (BRAT), designed to counter RPG attacks.

Despite its 25-ton weight, the Bradley maintains strong mobility. It can reach speeds of up to 37 mph (60 km/h) on its tracked system.

Its armament includes a 25 mm M242 Bushmaster autocannon, a 7.62 mm machine gun, and TOW anti-tank missile launchers, making it a formidable force on the battlefield.
