A Russian military correspondent has reported that Ukraine is allegedly preparing a nuclear provocation involving a "dirty bomb" in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Cause Widespread Contamination
According to Marat Khairullin, the correspondent who made these claims in URA, Ukraine plans to target spent nuclear fuel storage sites and potentially strike the Kursk and Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plants.
Khairullin shared these allegations on his Telegram channel, stating that Ukrainian forces intend to use the dirty bomb to cause widespread contamination.
He warned of the possibility that the attack might coincide with a Ukrainian military offensive from the direction of Hlukhiv towards Rylsk in the Kursk region. The correspondent highlighted that there is a significant likelihood of strikes against both the Kursk and Zaporizhzhia nuclear power stations.
A 'Dirty' Bomb
As of now, there has been no official confirmation of these claims.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not commented on the matter, despite an information request being sent by URA.RU, the outlet that reported Khairullin's statements.
The term "dirty bomb" typically refers to a radiological dispersal device (RDD) that combines conventional explosives with radioactive material. Unlike a nuclear bomb, a dirty bomb's primary purpose is to spread radioactive contamination over a wide area, rather than cause a large explosion.
