Russian bloggers and Telegram repoorted that Russian armed forces launched an attack on Motor Sich, a critical Ukrainian plant located in Zaporizhzhia that produces engines for military aircraft and drones.

Largest Aircraft Enginge Manufacturers

The sources claim that at least one Iskander-K short-range cruise missile struck the facility, specifically targeting a workshop focused on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) components.

Motor Sich has faced numerous missile strikes since the onset of the conflict, with the latest attack marking a continuation of hostilities aimed at disrupting Ukraine's defense capabilities.

Previous assaults on the facility were reported as early as April, illustrating a persistent threat to Ukraine's military production infrastructure, according to Digi24.

Motor Sich PJSC is one of the world's largest aircraft engine manufacturers, with a complex history regarding its ownership and foreign investment interests.

Blocked the Acquisition

In 2016, Chinese investors, including Skyrizon, sought to acquire a substantial stake in the company to gain access to advanced aerospace technologies. Skyrizon ultimately secured around 50% of Motor Sich shares through various entities.

However, this deal raised alarms among Ukrainian officials, who feared the potential loss of strategic technology amid rising tensions with Russia.

Under pressure from Ukrainian authorities and Western allies, the acquisition was blocked. In 2021, the Ukrainian government took decisive action by nationalizing Motor Sich to safeguard these vital technologies from foreign control.

The United States played a significant role in halting the agreement, viewing the Chinese investment as part of a broader strategy to acquire sensitive technologies.
