Ukraine’s drone forces have once again dealt a major blow to Russian air defenses, successfully destroying a Strela-10M4 surface-to-air missile system in the Luhansk region.
This highly advanced version of the Soviet-era Strela-10 was specifically designed to counter aerial threats, particularly Ukrainian drones, but ultimately proved no match for Ukraine’s growing dominance in unmanned warfare.
The 412th "NEMESIS" regiment carried out the strike, marking the second Strela system neutralized and the fifth major Russian air defense system taken out in February alone, according to Ukraine’s Drone Forces on Telegram.
Why This Matters
The Strela-10M4 is a short-range air defense system capable of engaging targets up to 5 kilometers away and as low as 10 meters in altitude. It was a key component of Russia’s defensive strategy, particularly as Ukraine has increasingly relied on drones and precision strikes to undermine enemy positions.
With the destruction of this system, Ukrainian forces have further weakened Russia’s ability to defend its occupied territory from drone and missile attacks.
This latest strike follows a series of successful Ukrainian operations against Russian air defenses.
Earlier, Ukrainian forces eliminated an S-300V air defense system in the Zaporizhzhia region, a much larger and more powerful system designed for both missile and aircraft interception.
